Hip arthrosis

Osteoarthritis of the hip is a degenerative disease of the hip joint, which leads to progressive destruction of the cartilage.Usually the origine of the cartilage loose is a mechanical problem (eccept rheumatoid-diseases). In former stages salvage-surgery of the hip joint may be possibile. These are:

1. Arthroscopy: in impingement this will improve the mobility and resolves the conflict between acetabulum and femur.
2. PAO: periacetabular Osteotomy - indicated in severe Hip-Dysplasia.
3. Osteotomy of the proximal Femur: in focal cartilage defects - the defect is turn out or rotated from the maximal weigth bearing area to an area without stress, sometimes indicated in moderate hip displasia

In severe degenerative changes, the only solution is the prosthetic hip replacement: see
